Collaboration - The Learning Village encourages collaboration among faculty members, staff members and students; extending learning beyond the traditional notions of classroom instruction by incorporating campus life, community service, and professional experiences into an active and rich learning process-thereby embracing the theory of "learning by doing." Collaboration in the Learning Village comes in many forms with a variety of outcomes, ultimately furthering the University of Dayton community on the path to producing distinctive graduates via an environment of connected learning and scholarship.

Connectivity - A fundamental characteristic of the Learning Village is its emphasis on "connectedness." Students, faculty members, and staff members are linked to one another and to communities outside the University through a robust data and communications network that provides a vast array of voice, data and video applications that enhance learning, facilitate communication and ease collaboration among learners. In addition, a wide array of interactive spaces, incorporated into classroom buildings, residence halls, and the student neighborhood, bring the distinctive members of the campus community together, face-to-face. The interconnections among learning and living are key attributes that drive the vision of a community that is committed to learning beyond the traditional notions of the classroom. Overall, this vision of the Learning Village is one of an enriched learning environment complete with resources that are available where we gather, where we live and where we work, on demand and around the clock.

Community - Not only does the Learning Village foster a campus-wide community, but also it reaches for a broadened connection with the larger community of Dayton. The opportunities to nurture and build equal partnerships with diverse constituencies will serve to challenge our minds, reward our hearts and test our resolve. The transformation of the campus and the surrounding community into an interconnected, collaborative Learning Village where students, faculty and staff work side by side as learners and servant leaders is a truly bold vision for the University of Dayton as it enters the 21st century.
